The members of the organisation are experts by experience and use their lived experiences to inform and
shape the organisation, providing them with the opportunity to use their individual and group voices to work to
improve their lives and the lives of individuals. The training sessions also support the campaigns that we run to
work to influence policy and decisions makers in the NHS and Local Authorities, working to break down barriers
and myths that surround people with learning disabilities.
Members of the board of trustees work in partnership with local primary schools and attend focus groups with
year 5 & 6 pupils giving talks about what it is like to live with a disability.
We co chair the Healthy Lives forum, this is a working group looking at Health services and health inequalities
locally, regionally and nationally, the group is made up of people with lived experience, professionals from the
Health & Social Care and commissioners
We attend national conferences to learn and provide input to the issues that people with learning disabilities
face. We have opened local conferences as key note speakers highlighting the issues of health inequalities.
We present a report to the adult safe guarding board each month.
Each person receives a full induction and skills assessment when they join the organisation and then regular
reviews of their development and support needs are held.
Running in parallel training and raising awareness individuals learn and develop skills involved in running an
organisation, this includes managing staff and budgets, having responsibility for renting office space,.health &
Safety & Employment Law and signatories of the bank account.
